Is It Just Another New Year’s Eve?

If you’re in my age bracket, you’ll remember the Barry Manilow song, “It’s Just Another New Year’s Eve.”  You can listen to it on my MySpace page. Although it’s a bit of a melancholy song, it has a good message. Basically, it says that no matter what we’ve been through and what we have to look forward to, we’ll be just fine.

Christmas – Take Time to Enjoy It

Christmas is a busy time of the year, a time to be thankful for what you have and to share with others. For the past week or so, I’ve been wrapping gifts and filling stockings. Now that my children are grown, it’s much easier to get everything done ahead of time. Of course, I miss having small children in the house eagerly looking forward to Christmas.

Michael Phelps – No Limits

Last night I had the opportunity to watch an interview of Michael Phelps, the Olympic swimming champion, as he spoke about his new book, No Limits. This book talks about how he set goals for himself and how this allowed him to achieve such astounding swimming feats.

A Season of Thanksgiving

This past Thursday, I celebrated Thanksgiving with my family. We had four generations present from my husband’s side of the family. My son-in-law had a joyful reunion with biological father whom he had not seen in ten years. It was a good day and many positive emotions were experienced.

How Do You Deal With Transition?

Transition. It seems to be the buzz word of the day. Right now, we’re hearing it used in the context of politics as we transition from one president to the next. However, each of has periods of transition all throughout our lives. How we handle these times often determines our future success in a particular area.

Appreciate Your Right to Vote

Well, it’s election day here in the United States. Each generation in my family is participating in some way. Both of my parents are voting. My husband and I went to the polls early this morning to cast our votes for the candidates we support. My younger daughter will be voting in a presidential election for the very first time. Even my grandchildren are eagerly planning to accompany their parents to the polls later on today. Although they are still very young, their homeschool group had a mock election last week where they voted for the fruit of their choice.

Do What You Can With What You Have

I had a computer crisis this past week and it messed up my schedule for getting all sort of things done, including posting on my blog. It was frustrating because my computer was the victim of a very nasty virus. The virus took over all sorts of things so it was hard to figure out exactly what was wrong. As I write this post, my son-in-law is still trying to see if he can save my computer from an early demise.

What Do You Actually Believe?

As I get older, I am beginning to question some of my long-held beliefs and feelings about different things in life and society. For example, in the past I felt a particular way about certain issues and would never have even thought to consider feeling differently. However, with age comes a new type of wisdom–the realization that everything you think you know and believe was taught to you by someone else. In most cases, you were never told why such and such was perceived to be a certain way; you just accepted that it was. It doesn’t mean that what we were taught is necessarily wrong, but I have found that I want to believe something because I personally believe it to be so.

Tell the Truth – We Don’t Need Any More Lies

With the political season in full swing, telling the truth or not telling the truth (as the case may be) is a major issue. As a voter and concerned citizen, it is often hard to tell who is telling the truth and who isn’t and whether something is 100% true or has been stretched to meet the situation. It’s very disillusioning to me personally.
