Normally my husband and I spend Thanksgiving day with some of our family. This year we were planning to spend it with my mother-in-law and just have a quiet day. We even changed our menu from turkey to chili because we’ve all been so busy lately and we didn’t want to do a lot of cooking. Well, the day turned out to be quieter than I expected.

Evidently, I caught the cold my grandchildren had been passing around. My mother-in-law decided she didn’t want to risk getting sick right now so she didn’t come over. My husband went over to visit with some of  his family but I stayed home alone. I spent most of  the day watching old movies and knitting Christmas gifts in between drinking fluids and trying to rest.

I called my mom to wish her a happy Thanksgiving. After hearing that I was under the weather she told me that I should be thankful that I could have a quiet Thanksgiving and rest when I needed to. So, that was my Thanksgiving this year. A new thing to be thankful for because, in fact, I was really glad that I was able to rest and not have to push myself and be cooking for a bunch of people.

So, once again, a lesson I’ve learned before is reinforced. Be thankful for what you have when you have it because it is most likely the thing that you need most at the time you experience it.
