I’m reading the book Over the Top by Zig Ziglar and he has a great quote at the beginning of one of the chapters:
The most important opinion you have is the one you have of yourself, and the most significant things you say all day are the things you say to yourself. ~ Anonymous
I have to confess that although I love this quote and believe in it wholeheartedly, I am still woefully inept when it comes to following the advice. Perhaps it’s my upbringing or maybe I was born that way, but I tend to say negative things to myself all the time. Although I try to remind myself to be positive and upbeat, it doesn’t always happen.
Zig Ziglar has a great chapter in the book called “Changing the Picture” in which he gives some great examples of how changing your words from negative to positive can directly affect your life and the results you get when you pursue your goals.
That’s why I love this book. I have been reading it every night before I go to bed with the hope that if I go to sleep with positive things on my mind I will wake up better prepared to start the next day. So far, I have noticed that I am falling asleep easier probably–because I’m not overstressing about a lot of different things. I’m also trying to periodically read little sections from the book during the day when I need a mental lift.
If you’re anything like me, I encourage to read this book or another one like it that inspires you to think the best of yourself. By putting positive information into your mind you can only improve the quality of your life.
