D-Day – Appreciating Those Who Served

Yesterday was D-Day, a pivotal event in World War II. As a child, I knew quite a few people who fought in World War II so I definitely feel a connection with people who served in this conflict. Of course, many of these people have now died but I remember them fondly.

Every day that I wake up here in the United States where I am free to express my opinions and follow any dream, I am thankful for the people who served in our military during World War II. If the war had not turned around in 1944, who knows what our country would look like today?

Unfortunately, nowadays World War II seems like ancient history to many people and they don’t see why it matters that we commemorate events such as D-Day. However, don’t ever think that events happening in other parts of the world don’t have an effect on us here in our country. Everything comes and goes around. Our American soldiers made a difference in the 1940′s and saved the world from tyrants. Today we have such a global economy that one tiny event in one part of the globe can create waves worldwide.

Never forget to appreciate those who fight for the right to be free because that which you take for granted can disappear before you know it.
