Priorities, priorities, priorities. It seems that you hear about them everywhere you go. Everyone talks about how important it is for you to prioritize your activities so that you can get the most out of life and manage your time efficiently.
As I get older, I am beginning to realize just how important priorities are in life. Unfortunately, I didn’t realize how much they mattered when I was younger raising my children and working at various jobs. In my case, my children always came first above anything else I did, but I think I could have done a better job with the time I had with them. It was so easy to worry about what I “should” have been doing when I was spending time with them. If I were raising children today, I would not feel the same way. I would treasure each moment with them and never allow anything to make me feel guilty.
But life goes on. Now that I don’t have any children at home to take care of, it’s time to take care of me. Perhaps you’re at that point in your life too. It’s time to realize that you as a person should be a priority in your life. Your job, other people’s demands–they don’t matter when you think about the rest of your life.
Take some time to really think about what matters to you. Do you have family members or friends who you want to do things with? Do you have a hobby that you’ve always wanted to take up? Sometimes we get so busy with our lives that we just go on autopilot and don’t even think that anything could be different.
Today, I dare you to do something just for you. Don’t worry about the housework that’s waiting or the bills you need to pay. Spend some time enjoying the person that you are today and doing something that you want to do. I think you’ll find that it gives you a whole new perspective on priorities.
