With the political season in full swing, telling the truth or not telling the truth (as the case may be) is a major issue. As a voter and concerned citizen, it is often hard to tell who is telling the truth and who isn’t and whether something is 100% true or has been stretched to meet the situation. It’s very disillusioning to me personally.
Telling lies or neglecting to tell the whole truth can cause you a lot of trouble. Maybe not now, maybe not for several years. But, rest assured, it will come back to haunt you at some time. Wouldn’t you rather tell the truth and be done with it? Then you never have to worry which version of the story you told to whom, and no one will be upset with you for telling them a lie. Telling the truth often upsets the listener but, in the end, it’s easier for them to accept the truth and move on than to falsely believe a lie or a half-truth and then be disillusioned later.
I know that no one tells the truth all the time, certainly not me. But I do aspire to be as honest as I can–even when it’s uncomfortable–because I’d rather be uncomfortable now than miserable later.
