I received another great quote in my email today:
“We need to learn to set our course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship.”
– General Omar N. Bradley, American General
I really like this analogy and am myself very guilty of being distracted by passing ships. Focus is the secret to success in any kind of endeavor you try. Whether it’s something as routine as keeping your house clean or completing your tax return or something as challenging as writing your first novel, you absolutely have to focus. If you allow yourself to be distracted by other people or things, you will stop looking at your goal and, consequently, you will probably not reach it.
Don’t let other people set the course of your life. They don’t have your best interest at heart.
