You Could Be a Hero and Not Even Realize It

“We relish news of our heroes, forgetting that we are extraordinary to somebody too.”~Helen Hayes.

This quote really hits home for me. In all the hustle and bustle of life, I often feel like I’m unimportant and rather superfluous in the scheme of things. After all, I’m not on TV and people aren’t waiting with baited breath to hear my next comment.

Then I have a day with my grandchildren and realize how much they look up to me. Just the other day, my little six-year-old-granddaughter told me that I was the best Nana in the world because I took them outside to play in the front yard–something so incredibly simple that made a little girl very happy.

Maybe you don’t have children or grandchildren but I’m sure there are people in your life who depend on you for something, who think that some of the little things you do are absolutely wonderful. In their eyes, you appear to be a hero or heroine.

So, the next time you’re feeling like you don’t matter and no one cares about whether you exist or not, look around at the people in your life. Somewhere among those people is the one who needs what you have to give and who looks up to you for giving it.
